Loree Seitz

Winner of the Currahee Scholarship

The 506th Association has selected Loree Seitz from Reston, Virginia as the recipient of the $1,000 Currahee Scholarship award for 2018.  

Loree Seitz is the daughter of Bob Seitz, Charlie Company 2-506, who served in Vietnam. She was born March 17th, 2000 and grew up in Reston, Virginia. During her four years at South Lakes High School, Loree served as a member of the 2018 class council and held leadership positions in her school’s choral department. Additionally, Loree was an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program candidate, taking a rigorous course load of IB classes. She graduated from high school in June of 2018 and will attend the University of Virginia in the fall. Loree plans to pursue a major in Public Policy and a minor in Global Development in Education.

The following letter is from Loree:

Dear 506th Scholarship Committee,

I would like to sincerely thank the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association for your generosity in selecting me as a 2018 scholarship recipient. I am honored to receive this scholarship from such a brave group and I will continue to express my gratitude through my actions as I begin to serve others during and following college. As I begin my college career in the fall, this scholarship and the support of 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association will enable me to further pursue my dreams by making my college more affordable.

Logan Cline

Winner of the John and Marcia Lally Service Award

The 506th Association has selected Logan Cline from Cheyenne, Wyoming as the recipient of the $1,000 John and Marcia Lally Service Award Scholarship for 2018.  

Logan, the son of Tyler and Kari Cline, was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He grew up actively participating in outdoor activities, church and community activities, and many sports including varsity baseball in High School. Logan was a member of the National Honors Society and earned letters in Academics, IB, and Math. He graduated from Cheyenne East High school with Honors and a Diploma in the International Baccalaureate Program. Logan is the proud grandson of Lin Bashford who served in the 101st Airborne division with an assignment to Company D, Second Battalion, 506th Infantry during the Vietnam War. Logan plans to attend Dordt College in Iowa to play baseball and major in Mechanical Engineering with the hope of one day becoming an Engineer.

Dear 506th Scholarship Committee,

I would like to say thanks for the generosity in selecting me for this scholarship. This will be helpful in my pursuit of becoming a mechanical engineer and working to create things to better people’s lives. It is an honor to receive this from such a prestigious group. I also would like to say thanks to not only the veterans but also the brave men and women who work to keep us safe. I am extremely grateful and humbled to be one of the 2018 recipients.

Jared Hicks

Winner of the NAVILLUS Scholarship Award

The 506th Association has selected Jared Hicks from Lawrence, Kansas as the recipient of the $1,000 NAVILLUS Scholarship Award for 2018.

Jared Hicks was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas. Growing up, he has been involved in sports, academic groups, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, and has also held a job. Despite Jared’s busy schedule he was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA and was able to stand out because of these performances. In high school, he participated in five different sports and was a state qualifier in cross country, track, and basketball during 3 of his 4 years. Jared was also a member of National Honors Society, a Kansas State Scholar, and was Valedictorian of his 2018 graduating class at Free State High School in Lawrence. Jared lives with his parents, Travis and Roxanne, and has three siblings. His older sisters, Amber and Alyssa, are both business degree graduates from the University of Arkansas. He also has a little brother Justin “Guppy” who is entering his sophomore year at Free State in the fall. Next year, Jared plans to attend the University of Kansas to study engineering and get his MBA. He also plans on getting as involved as much as possible on the campus and to attend as many KU basketball games as he can. Jared is the grandson of Larry Hicks who served with A Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry in the Republic of Vietnam.

Dear 506th Scholarship Committee,

I would like to thank the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association for selecting me as a 2018 recipient of this $1,000 scholarship. As a kid, I heard stories from my grandfather, Lawrence E. Hicks, about his time in service. It is very special to me that his time serving not only benefitted our country, but now, 40 years later, his involvement has helped me attend college just a little bit cheaper. I will not take this money for granted, as I realize many qualified candidates applied for this scholarship. I am honored and thankful that I stood out amongst these other candidates. Thank you again 506th Scholarship Committee.

Kaitlyn Strauser

Winner of the Eugene and Marilyn Overton Scholarship Award

The 506th Association has selected Kaitlyn Strauser from St. Charles, Missouri as the recipient of the $1,000 Eugene and Marilyn Overton Scholarship award for 2018.

Kaitlyn Strauser was born October of 1997 in St. Charles, Missouri where she then spent her whole childhood growing up. She is the granddaughter of Fred Strauser, HHC, 2nd BN, 506 Infantry who served at Fort Campbell. Kaitlyn graduated Magna Cum Lade in 2016 from Francis Howell Central high school. During her years there, she competed in multiple sports including cheerleading, soccer, and lacrosse, and was part of multiple other school organizations. She was the captain of her soccer team sophomore year and was part of the first ever lacrosse team in her school’s history. Since high school, Kaitlyn has begun college at Southeast Missouri State University and is pursuing a degree in Healthcare Management. She is a member of the Jane Stephen Honors College there and is on track to graduate a semester early. After school, she hopes to work in the hospital as a Health Information Manager and eventually work her way up to be a Hospital Administrator.
