Logan Boal

Winner of the NAVILLUS Award

The 506th Association has selected Logan Boal from York Springs, Pennslvania as the recipient of the $1,000 NAVILLUS Award for 2019.

Logan Boal is the grandson of Ronald Helwig, who served for three years in Bravo Company, 1st Airborne Battle Group, 506th Infantry Regiment. Ron is also a distinguished member of the 506th Infantry Regiment. Logan was born and raised in York Springs, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Bermudian Springs High School, where he was the captain of the Science Olympiad and Quiz Bowl teams, the President of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter, a member of the National Honor Society. He qualified for Nationals for both Quiz Bowl and FBLA, and he was the State Champion in each. He was also the valedictorian of his class and was named a National Merit Scholar. In the fall, he will be attending Lebanon Valley College to pursue a double major in Actuarial Science and Analytica Finance. He wishes to be an actuary.

Dear 506th Scholarship Committee,

I am sincerely thankful to the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association for awarding me this scholarship. They have served this country bravely and nobly, and now they are helping me achieve my dreams. It is humbling and an honor to be recognized by such a group. I would be remiss without thanking my grandfather, Ronald Helwig, for all of his service to his country and his family. He, like everyone else in the 506th Infantry, is a true hero.

Hallie Guidy

Winner of the Currahee Scholarship Award

The 506th Association has selected Hallie Guidy from Ragley, Louisiana as the recipient of the $1,000 Currahee Scholarship Award for 2019.

Hallie is the daughter of CJ and Jana Hudson and was born and raised in the small town of Ragley, Louisiana. She is the proud granddaughter of Glen and Judy Guidry. Glen, a Purple Heart recipient, served with Alpha Company 1-506th Infantry in Vietnam. Her grandfather is very special to her. He has taught and continues to teach her many life lessons. His service to others and country is one that made a lasting impact on her and helped to further her decision of becoming a nurse. Throughout school she was involved in different activities and clubs. Hallie was a varsity cheerleader for four years and very active in her school’s Beta and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America clubs. She recently graduated valedictorian of her class and will be attending Northwestern State University in the fall to pursue a degree in nursing.

Winner of the CPT Luke Wallenwaber Award

The 506th Association has selected Alexandria Evans from Hopkinsville, Kentucky as the recipient of the $1,000 CPT Luke Wullenwaber Memorial Scholarship Award for 2019.

Alexandria Evans, the daughter of SFC(R) Troy and Jennifer Evans, was born at Fort Campbell's Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and raised in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She graduated from Hopkinsville High School in the summer of 2018 and began her college education at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky the fall of 2018. Entering her sophomore year, Alexandria is an English/History double major and a member of Bellarmine University's honors program. She plans to go to graduate school for a Master of the Arts in Teaching.

I would like to thank the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association for selecting me as a 2019 scholarship recipient. I have no doubt that many qualified individuals applied, and I am honored to have been selected among the other applicants. I will always be grateful for the generosity of the 506th as I continue my education. I also give thanks to my father who served with A Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry at Camp Liberty Bell, South Korea, along with all those who served and still serve with the 506th.

Alexandria Evans

Madison Swinghom

Winner of the Overton Scholarship

The 506th Association has selected Madison Swingholm from Omaha, Nebraska as the recipient of the $1,000 Eugene and Marilyn Overton Scholarship Award for 2019.

Madison Swingholm, born August 5, 1998, in Omaha, Nebraska, is the daughter of Matthew Swingholm, who was assigned to A Co, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry. He served at Camp Liberty Bell, South Korea from 1989 to 1990, and is still active duty today at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. Madison moved to Kentucky with her parents, following her high school graduation in 2016 at Ramstein American High School in Germany. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Psychology at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. This fall, she will begin her final year at the university, where she will be busy preparing and working on her Senior Honors Thesis and applying to various Master’s programs. During her time at the university, she has been working towards completing the university’s Honors Scholars Program and has begun to focus her work on research and specialized courses in her fields of study. Aside from her academic pursuits, Madison has been an active member in her university’s Student Activities Board, the Model United Nations & United Nations Association, the Women 4 Women student organization, and the Panhellenic community. Following these great experiences at the University of Louisville, she will go on to earn her Master’s degree and eventually a PhD, which she will use to pursue a research career focusing on International Development, Conflict Resolution, and Global Policy.

Matthew Terry

Winner of the SPC Edwin Roodhouse Award

The 506th Association has selected Matthew Terry from Tennessee as the recipient of the $1,000 SPC Edwin Roodhouse Memorial Scholarship Award for 2019.

Matthew was born in Heidelberg, Germany and grew up in Brownsville, Tennessee. Matthew enlisted in the United States Army in 2009. He was initially stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana with the 509th Airborne Infantry Battalion for 3 years. Matthew was then stationed with Whiskey Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry at Fort Campbell, Kentucky from 2012-2015 as a communications sergeant.

After separating from the Army, Matthew attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a 4.0 GPA in 2018. Matthew is now attending graduate school at the University of Tennessee to receive his Master of Science in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he plans on becoming a fully licensed structural engineer to design bridges and buildings in areas of high seismic activity.

I am humbled to be selected by the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association as a 2019 scholarship winner. During my time in the 506th, I learned much about hard work, respect, and integrity. I am now taking these lessons and applying them towards higher education. It is because of the 506th Committee that I can achieve my goals with little financial hardship. To be acknowledged by my fellow veterans is an honor to be regarded with great respect.

Matthew Terry

Jessica Thompson

Winner of the Lally Scholarship

The 506th Association has selected Jessica Thompson from Omaha, Nebraska as the recipient of the $1,000 Marcia and John Lally Service Award for 2019.

Jessica Thompson is the daughter of Alphonse LeMaire, who served two deployments in Afghanistan with 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment. Jessica was born on July 6, 2000 and raised in many states including: Texas, Georgia, Kentucky, Kansas, Alabama and Hawaii. While in Hawaii she attended Leilehua High School. She was a member of the cross country, track, and soccer teams. In addition to athletics, she also excelled in academics. She graduated in the top 15% of her class and earned 15 college credits before graduating high school. She graduated from high school in May 2019 and will attend Texas State University in the fall. Jessica plans to major in Elementary Education.
