The 506th Association has selected Patrick McGloine as the recipient of the $1,500 NAVILLUS Award for 2021.  Patrick is attending St. Michael's College in Colchester, VT this fall.  

Patrick McGloine is the son of Thomas and Deborah McGlone.  He is originally from Sackets Harbor, New York and has been raised in Schuylerville, New York.  He is the proud son of MAJ (Ret) Thomas McGloine who served 3 years “North of the River” in the 1st BN 506th IN, Camp Greaves ROK as S4 and D Co Commander and later serving alongside the Currahee’s in Zabul, Afghanistan.

Patrick is a NYSPHAA Scholar Athlete who excelled in varsity cross country, track, and the ski team.  Patrick graduated 4th in his class at Schuylerville High School, June 25, 2021 and received two awards for excellence in math, is a College Board National Recognition Program honoree, and received the Saint Michael’s College Book Award for academic achievement and social conscience. He served as the treasurer for the National Honor Society, and was a member of the Environmental Club, Boy Scouts, and Spanish Club. He grew up doing community service and built batting cages for the Old Saratoga Athletic Association as his Eagle Scout project and has volunteered at local parks, churches and various charities. 

Patrick McGloine will study environmental science starting in the Fall of 2021 as part of the honors program at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont to learn how to make a positive contribution on nature's behalf.  He will run on their XC team and take full advantage of any and all downhill skiing opportunities. 

After college, he intends to be working a job that keeps him outside and moving. His goal is to help communities come together to address environmental issues affecting people all over the globe and to protect/preserve the environment and the natural world.

I am sincerely grateful to be chosen by the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association as a scholarship recipient. Thank for your generous investment in my college education and the next generation’s future. To be honored with this scholarship means so much to me and my family because my father cherishes his service as a Currahee. I hope to continue, in my own way, to ‘Stand Alone’ as I strive to be a catalyst for positive change and to make a difference for our world.

Winner of the $1,000 CPT Luke Wullenwaber Memorial Award

The following letter is from Izabel:

Dear 506th Scholarship Committee,

I am sincerely thankful to the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association for awarding me this scholarship. It is an honor to both myself and my grandpa, Ronald Kane, to be recognized. I would like to thank the veterans for their service to our country and for selecting me as a recipient of this scholarship.

Eric Vickers

Winner of the $2,000 Marcia and John Lally Service Award

The 506th Association has selected Eric Vickers as the recipient of the $2,000 Marcia and John Lally Service Award for 2021. Eric is attending Hanover College in the Fall.

Eric Vickers, the son of David and Jennifer Vickers was born on September 9th, 2003 at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. SSG Vickers served with B Co, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment at Camp Greaves, South Korea and A Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment at Fort Campbell. After his father’s retirement from the Army, Eric and his family moved to Vincennes, Indiana where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 2021 in the top 5% of his class and earned academic letters every year, an academic honors diploma, and 33 college credits. In addition to academics, he also excelled in athletics. Eric was the starting Quarterback his Junior and Senior years, earned all area honors both years, and helped lead the team to the first sectional victory in 12 years in 2019. Eric also played Varsity baseball all four years of high school and was a starter on the 2019 sectional baseball team, which won its first sectional championship since 2007. He also participated in Champions Together and Community Service Class. His own personal experiences with physical therapy created a desire to study more about how the body works and moves so he can help others prevent and overcome injury, no matter how the trauma to the body occured. Eric plans to study Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology at Hanover College while playing football. He aspires to obtain his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and open his own physical therapy clinic where he can help serve the needs of his community.

Dear 506th Scholarship Committee,

I am greatly honored that I was selected to earn a distinguished 506th scholarship. The time my dad spent as a part of the historic Currahees, at Fort Campbell and in South Korea, is an important part of our family that we all take great pride in. I began my educational career as a preschooler while my dad served with 506th at Fort Campbell and because of the 506th Infantry Regiment Association’s generosity, I will be able to continue my educational aspirations at Hanover College and ultimately earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, while also realizing my dream of playing college football. I would also like to thank my dad for his honorable service and the sacrifices he made to serve our country.
